Conflict Management in Communications Centers

This course is intended for:
Managers, supervisors, training officers, and others within law enforcement and fire communications centers who have a supervisory/leadership role.

Conflict management is the long-term management of intractable conflicts. Conflict can occur with every group of people, in any organization. It creates unique problems when it occurs with a group of strong personalities working in public safety communications.

This course presents and discusses proactive steps to better manage and minimize conflict within the communications center.

Effective conflict management in communications centers results in increased morale, higher retention rates, promotes professionalism, and increases productivity.

Legal Update/Liability Considerations for Public Safety Communications Personnel

This course is designed to familiarize the student with basic legal issues and relevant changes to statutory and/or case law which directly or potentially impact public safety communications operations. Within a learner-centered, interactive classroom environment, the course provides the public safety dispatcher with an opportunity to discuss actions which have affected some day-to-day public safety communications operations.

The course will also address liability related issues such as standards in training, mandates specific to public safety dispatchers, dispatcher liability and analysis of specific vulnerability areas in the communications center such as the management of confidential and/or protected information.

Communications Technology in Dispatch: The Past, Present and Future

Technology is changing the way the modern communications center operates. Changes in technology affect how citizens access and interact with public safety services, as well as impacting how dispatchers provide those services.

This course provides easy to understand information and instruction on different technologies that are available and in use, how various systems work, how they impact the communications center, and how dispatchers can utilize them to their fullest.

Active School Shooter Incidents for Dispatchers

Think that a school shooting can't happen in your jurisdiction? Would you know what to do if one occurs? Is your communications center prepared?

This course is designed to familiarize the public safety dispatcher with concepts, tactics, and procedures for reacting and responding to an active shooter.  It also provides proactive tools and ideas in order to be prepared for such an event.
